Wedding in Sorrento Italy

DESTINATION WEDDING ON THE

AMALFI COAST, ITALY

KATY & STEVE

SEPTEMBER

Romantic wedding in Sorrento, Italy

On a sunny September day Katy and Steve had the most beautiful wedding in Sorrento, Italy. It was actually my first time in Italy and I was so excited to spend a week on the Amalfi coast (via London to see my parents, naturally).

The wedding celebrations started the evening before, as all 30 family and friends who had flown out from England gathered for dinner out on the piazza. Amidst the soundtrack of Prosecco corks popping I got to know the bridal party and Ben, my 8 year old dining companion. He was very charming and let me taste some of his pizza. In my book, that makes him a friend for life.

The morning of the wedding dawned bright and fresh, and the atmosphere in Katy’s hotel room was giddy. Joined by sister Hannah and best friend Amy, the bridesmaids, Katy was a very relaxed bride to be. Ben, her son, joined us briefly along with her mum Cheryl. Poor Cheryl. At the airport, before even leaving England, she broke her foot. The woman was an absolute trooper, and did not let a broken foot keep her off the dancefloor. Because of the wheelchair, she turned out to be very good at the limbo.

St Francis Cloisters

The ceremony was held at the medieval St Francis Cloisters in Sorrento, and Katy was radiant as her dad walked her down the aisle where Steve was waiting for her with his best men. With the help of a translator, they were married to the gentle sound of a string quartet surrounded by the 14th century history and lush foliage. A few lucky passing tourists stayed to watch as well!

After the ceremony, we headed to Hotel Corallo for lunch, and then to the Foreigners’ Club for the reception.  The Foreigners’ Club is small, but has an open air dancefloor and a stunning view of the ocean.  It made for a lovely setting for their reception.  And with the right people, you don’t need a big, impersonal reception venue – their friends and family really know how to throw a celebration.  I was very happy to be a part of it. Because it is a popular venue for destination weddings, we met two other brides on the same night!

I’m not going to lie, I cried a lot at this wedding. Katy and I have known each other for over 15 years, when we used to work together and her cat would facetime with my rabbit. When she walked down the aisle the tears spilled a little, but when her and Steve had their first dance I had a good sob!

That’s all from Italy for now – I hope you enjoyed this look into Katy and Steve’s gorgeous destination wedding in Sorrento!  I wish the happy couple a lifetime of happiness together…Thank you for letting me be a part of your celebration. Also Katy I miss you!!!
